Cross-promotion in Telegram: how to make it work

Cross-promotion is an ad swap with no money: you publish a post about a partner's channel, they publish one about yours. It works when audiences share a topic and channels are comparable in real views, not subscriber counts. And every swap needs its own invite link, or you can't measure the result.

How to pick a partner

  • A nearby topic, not a copy: readers should find it interesting, not "the same thing".
  • Compare average views and ERR, not subscribers: a channel with a dead audience brings fewer people than a small live one.
  • Look at the partner's recent posts: how often they run ads and what kind.

What to agree on

  • Date and hour of publication for both.
  • How long the post stays in the feed and when it can be deleted.
  • Who writes the promo: usually each side writes about their own channel.
  • Whether to pin the post.

How to measure the result

Create a separate invite link for each swap. After a day and after a week, compare how many people joined through the link and how many stayed. A swap after which half the newcomers left within a week is worse than day one suggests.
